Coming Up Roses...

When everything goes as scheduled- seedlings sown in the ground when they are supposed to, vegetables sprouting and concluding first harvest rounds of selected produce I can not be anything but grateful.

The orchard looks promising after a heavy prune.

The weather has been cooperative, the rain has come and gone. Noreastern winds have not been the destructive windblasts that usually blow through these Galician lands and although most nights are still chilly, I keep in mind:

Hasta el 40 de mayo no te debes quitar el sayo.

There is no english translation to the saying and it does not make sense when translated verbatim, but it has been proven frigid temperatures can and do occur until the 10 of June, thus, one should never dress in summer clothes until the 40th of May.

In my case, forget about the long flowing floral dresses I am known for, I fear a miserable noreastern with wretched winds and hail storms.

Yes, I have lived through several in late May early June since living in Spain.

This year I have done things differently with the farming, not forcing seedlings to sprout in a green house. Not trying to beat the clock doing more than normal as I did when encased in a glass structure, spending long hours in it protected by anti-UV glass panels ignoring other interests.

The land was tilled slowly and with care. Running root was manually pulled from the fields.

Stray toads and hedgehogs were re-homed, snails were collected to prevent them from feasting on young plants all while developing a higher tolerance to serpents... eeek.

I am in the great outdoors!

My schedule has changed due to my limited exposure to high UV... yes lupus still sucks.

Waking at 5:30 am every day I see the most glorious picture perfect sunrises.

A new day more beautiful than the day before and with a sigh i always say to myself, "This is where I belong."
